Since that article, I have had women emailing me asking if the Brazilian Keratin Treatment  works on African American hair. The answer is yes, it works great on African American hair. My hair type is 4a. However, it works better if you have been putting a relaxer in your hair. Virgin hair, hair that have not been chemically altered, does take the treatment but not as well as relaxed hair.

For some women, growing their hair can be a long, yet slow process. Many women look for products to help them achieve their hair goals. Two such products that are all the rave nowadays are Boundless Tresses and Mane-Tail-Growth oil. I have tried both of these products in the past and had great results. However, each product had its drawbacks. In the end, I had chose my homemade products over both due to the cost.

According to a letter that was circulated around the Internet, MTG, also known as Mane-Tail-Growth oil was first created for use by humans. MTG was also applied to horses and was found to great for skin problems in horses. However, after the company that owned the product was sold, the new owner pursued the animal market as oppose to human use. Since many women online were saying how well the product worked in their hair, I decided to try it out for myself.

I ordered MTG from Shapley’s website. The order did not take long to come in at all. Now, at the time Shapley’s was not selling this product for humans so the directions were for how to apply MTG to a horse. I knew that using this product would have to be trial and error on my part. I read on a forum that MTG had an awful smell because of the oil that Shapley’s used. One of the first thing I did was open the bottle and took a sniff. Sure enough the smell was terrible but thankfully women who had tried MTG before I did gave tips on how to mask the smell.

After I washed and air-dried my hair, I applied a very small amount of MTG mixed with peppermint to a small area of my hair to make sure I was not allergic to MTG. I was happy to find out that I wasn’t allergic and continued to use the oil for about three months. Though I had great results, I just couldn’t keep putting MTG on my hair because the smell was really bothering me even though I mixed it with peppermint and other such oils. I was a bit disappointed that I had to stop using such a great product. I began to search for a new product to use in place of MTG.

I found out that one member of the Long Hair Care Forum made a new product she called Boundless Tresses, or BT for short that did what exactly what MTG did but without the bad smell. I had purchased on of her bottles to try out. The ingredients were really simple. Just olive oil, coconut oil and sulphur. I did get faster growth with Boundless Tresses. The directions were rather simple. Shake well and apply when needed. I used her product until all was finished and went from a bob length to just above shoulder length.

I am more than sure that Boundless Tresses is a much better product due to the smell. I would have continued to buy the product but seeing that the ingredients were simple and how easy it was to make, I decided to cut the cost. Making Boundless Tresses instead of buying it has been cost efficient for me. I could mix different ingredients for a better smell. Right now I have added a bit of rose scent to the Boundless Tresses while last month I had added lemon essential oil. However, some women do not have the time or the patience to make Boundless Tresses or MTG on their own so I would highly recommend you buy Boundless Tresses instead.
